Anchorage’s Dalton Chapman didn’t just escape Grand Canyon University’s 25-18 win over Xavier unscathed, he came away with his first win of the season.

The former West Legion Post 1 ace was among three of 14 pitchers who did not allow a run in a four-hour NCAA D1 slugfest in Phoenix, Arizona, that featured 43 runs, 44 hits and 22 walks.

Chapman pitched a clean seventh inning after Grand Canyon scored 16 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 21-10 lead.

The 6-foot-5 senior right-hander worked himself into a bases-loaded jam and then got himself out with a two-out fielder’s choice.

On the season, Chapman is 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA in seven appearances. He's got nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
