It took Parker Johnson of Anchorage a little bit of time on a college field to get warmed up before his swing came alive for Indiana Wesleyan University.

The freshman left fielder has seen his batting average steadily climb since the beginning of the NAIA season.

He hit .182 in February and .303 in March before ripping off a .350 clip so far in April.

Johnson, of South Legion Post 4 fame, is hitting .299 in 34 games with 15 RBIs and 12 runs.

He’s also walked 14 times to help bolster a .393 on-base percentage, which ranks second on the team and 27 points higher than the team average.

Indiana Wesleyan is 28-14 on the season, 14-5 for first place in the Crossroads League.
