West 10, Chugiak 0
Ivan Tillman earned his second win in three days and Luke Langnes and Nicko Opinsky each had three RBIs as the Eagles made school history by claiming the third-place game at the ASAA/First National Bank State Baseball Tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.
Tillman (5-0) threw four scoreless innings to finish the high school season with a 27-inning scoreless streak. He allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out two.
Langness was 3-for-3 and Nicko Opinsky was 2-for-3. Jack Opinsky went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs. Hayden Wanamaker was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Quinn Bates-Janigo was 1-for-1 with an RBI double.
West’s Leland Wilson – who had been injured all year – made his pitching debut and struck out the side in his only inning of work.
The third-place finish was the best in school history for West (12-7), bettering the team’s fourth-place finish in 2010, the only other time the Eagles played at state.
It was also West’s first win against Chugiak in four meetings this year.
Justin Nevells went 2-for-3 and Christian Cambridge was 1-for-2 with a walk for Chugiak (16-4).
Rest of the team was 0-for-14.
